The last four years have seen a decrease in the proportion of technical graduates employed in their professional sphere. Since the present model of admission to universities is based on the system of priorities, most applicants of technical courses have a poor understanding of the major they choose. Further on, junior students have no classes of practical application in such fundamental disciplines as Mathematics and Physics. The authors identified the stages of professional identification in technical university students to develop a model of their professional self-determination. The review of psychological and pedagogical studies on the problem of professional identity made it possible to define the concept of professional self-determination of a technical university student with its structure, composition, and development stages. The proposed stages take into account all years of technical university education. The research prospects involve a model of professional self-determination in students of technical universities.
